Challenges in Educational Measurement

Content, Methods and Consequences

The conference Challenges in Educational Measurements – Contents, Methods and Consequences will take place on the 12th -13th October 2016 at the Department of Education and Special Education, University of Gothenburg. An international group of prominent researchers are invited to present their work around the main theme Educational measurement and to join the panel discussion.

The recent global trend emphasizing accountability, especially the prevalence of international large-scale studies by IEA and OECD, has drawn great attentions worldwide. Sweden is not an exception. Increased demands of reporting and monitoring quality and efficiency at different levels of the school system imply that the field of educational measurement involves many stakeholders. This raised great concern on designing reliable and valid instruments to measure individuals' abilities and achievements and developing robust statistical models to identify causal relationships between different school-related factors and student’s performance. Moreover, educational measurement has become technically complex.

The aim of the conference is thus to create an international forum to promote the research field, to spread and exchange new knowledge and techniques, and to encourage international collaboration and establish network. We also take the opportunity during the conference to honor Professor Jan-Eric Gustafsson on his retirement for his invaluable contribution to the field of Educational measurements.
